Dear Sharon,
Glad you found the toilet tip useful! Alternatively, you could carry some plastic bags around ;O)
Oh! i thought you were going fly into Siem Riep and back home directly from there. In that case, attached is yet another map.. this time, of Phnom Penh, which is yet another awesome place.
Actually if you ask me, taking a bus to PP is A LOT more pleasant than taking the boat though i know most people will find the boat-ride more thrilling. Just remember to bring some food up on the boat and again, try not to drink too much as the toilet is in a very sad state. If you intend to take a bus from Siem Riep to PP instead (which is half the price of the boat), take the one from Mekong Express. Extremely clean with toilet in the bus... and they serve sandwiches as well. You can find the Mekong Express office on #14A St Siwatha, Phum Mondul 1.
I was in PP for 2 nights where on the first nite, i stay near the Tonle Sap River..... well.. let's just say it is VERY touristy there. On the 2nd nite, we moved downwards.. in between the Central Market and the Toul Sleng Genocide Museum into this place called Scandinavia Hotel. It is located on 4 Street 282. If you look at the map, it is on the bottom right quadrant of the map.. near the Independent Monument. This area was much nice (to me, at least).
This hotel was really nice..but it was not that cheap.. about US$ 35 per night but i liked it very much. The one along the river (many of them!) was charging only US$ 15 / nite but it was not that nice.
I am not sure how long you intend to stay in PP but if you only have 1 day, then go for the Toul Sleng Genocide museum which is a very depressing place... but a must go. This museum opens from 8am - 5pm but closes at lunch time! (about 12 - 1 pm). If you have more time... do visit the Russian Market and the Central Market. They sell almost everything there! But the markets also closes around 6pm. Another place i never made it is The Killing Fields which is 15km away from the city ... so u will need an extra day to see this.
I did not make it to the beaches of Cambodia as well because i heard it is about 4-6 hrs by bus .. so it was not possible for me. I believe you are referring to the beaches in Sihanoukville.
I guess you will be taking a bus from PP to Saigon?? how long would you be staying in Vietnam? 7th of Oct is a Sunday and i am always out from 2pm till late every sunday ( i join a running group called the Hashers where we run in the country side every sunday). If you will be staying for a few days, then we should definitely meet! And yes, i love love love Vietnamese food too. Let me know where you plan to stay.. or if you need help in this area as well, just let me know! i will reply before u leave!
;O)

Dear Shufang,
Awesome! Million thanks for your helpful tips and the maps!!! I will definitely bear in mind with your notes, oooops, especially the toilet part, well, I drink a lot of water everyday you know. Hmm..I think I'll have to drink less there.
Here's our flights and tentative plan. We are heading off to Siem Reap on Sept 29, planning to linger there for 3-4 days to see the temples and then take boat trip to Phnom Penh very likely. Have you been to the beach of Cambodia? Heard that the beach is beautiful.. Our trip will end by departing from Vietnam on Oct 7. I am so looking forward to the Vietnamese foods there. *slurp*
